As younger boys we did not have proper suits. We wore our school uniforms for best such as going to church. This meant that we were all essentially dressed alike as we went to the same primary school. This changed only slightly when our older brother began secondary school. When we were a little older in 1974, mum bought brown sports jackets for us and contrasting darker brown trousers. She even bought matching gold ties so we were all dressed exactly alike. It was just before we went to Belgium and would longer have school uniforms to wear. We were about 12-14 years old at the time. It was the last time we were all dressed alike like that. We went on a big clothes shopping spree. The only reason I can think of is that dad had got his new job in Belgium and had plenty of money to spend, as he was earning about three times what he'd been earning before. We all moved to Belgium shortly afterwards. I would imagine mum and dad decided what they thought we looked good in, I certainly had very little interest in what I was wearing at any given
moment, so long as it wasn't anything I considered babyish or girlish.
