Our chronological information on Hungarian sailor suits are very limited. We do not yet have any information on he 19th century. At he time of course, Hungary was part of the Austrian Empire which became the Austro-Hungarian Empire (1868). We suspect that sailor suit trends in what is now Hungary were not significantly different from trends in the Austrian regions of the Empire meaning Vienna and other cities throughout the Empire. We have one example which can be seen on the previouspage. Itwas taken in 1911. It is a white suit, but we can't make out much detail. We think that as in Austria and Germany that girls also began wearing sailor outfits during the late-19th century. After World War I (1914-18). We do see sailor suits in the inter-War era (1920s-30s). What we have found so far are light-weight white summer suits which look rather like German suits. There were also dark suits done in heavier material, but we do not yet have many images. We no longer see sailor suits in Hungary after World War II (1939-45). Some may have been worn, but the middle-class image of the sailor suit was not politically correct in a Communist Hungary.
