Vicount Stonehaven: Children--Ian

Figure 1.-- Here we see Ian at St. Peter's Court Prep School in 1920. We do not know where Ian was in all this lot. There are about 60 boys there so we assume that it is the entire school. Ian wpould have been in the bacl with the older boys. Lady Ethel only mentions Ian in the caption. We are unsure where his brother was. Notice the caps with circles and the rather baggy long pants suits.

Ian was born in 1908 and became the 12th Earl of Kintore. The boys were close in age and attended the samne schoos. There are many full page photos of Ian and Greville at St Peter's Court prep school and Eton. Here we see Ian at St. Peter's (figure 1). He would have been about 12 years old. Notice the caps with circles and the rather baggy long pants suits. We know very little about St. Peter's Court. It is no longer an active school. We are not sure where it was located, but it would have been a boarding school for boys about 8-13 years old, preparing them for their public school, in this case Eton. We see Ian participating in a school play. Eton of course is one of the best known schools in the world.

Childhood

Ian was born in 1908. We do not know a great deal about his childhood. The photographs in Lady Ethel's book began in 1920 ad by this time Ian was about 12 years old.

St. Peter's Court

Most of the photographs of Ian in the album are school photographs. Ian anf his brother Greville were close in age and attended the samne schoos. There are many full page photos of Ian and Greville at their schools. Their prep school was St. Peter's Court. We see Ian participating in a school play at St. Peters. As it was an all-boys school, the boys playd bothe boys' and girl's roles. We do not know the name of the play, but the costumes make it polain that it was about the Netherlands.

Eton

The boys also attended Eton College. Eton of course is one of the best known schools in the world. We also see Ian as an older boy in the Army Cadet Force (ACF) at Eton. The British Government ended the Cadet program after Workd War I as a budgetary reduction measure. Apparently Eton continued it without government support. After decades, the ACF had become an established tradition at many public schools.

Adult Life

Ian became the 12th Earl of Kintore.
