This is the home economic courses available to second year students at most secondary school. Second year students have a little more time for elective courses, so only three courses might be offered, depending on the size of the school.

Clt 41: Covering the Bottom Half

Entry Requirements: NilI

Cost: $2.00

Purpose: In this module students will make a garment br the bottom half. eg. trousers, skirts, haggies, etc.

Learning Outcomes: : By the end of this module students should be able to:

Content: Pattern know-how. Techniques and processes for completing shorts/skirts using sewing equipment safely. Textile terms. Textile testing.


Clt 42: Fabric Decoration

Entry Requirements: Nil

Cost: $2.00 plus provide own fabrics and notions.

Purpose: This module will give students the opportunity to decorate fabric using different methods.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of this module students should be able to:

Content: Mixing paints and dyes. Experimenting with different methods including stencilling, batik and applique. Finished article - wall hanging, cushions, sweatshirt. Finishes applied to fabric. Fabric trends in decoration.


Clt 43: Covering the Top Half

Entry Requirements: Nil

Cost: S2.00 plus provide own fabric and notions

Purpose: In this module students will make a garment (for the top half, e.g. shirt.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of this module students should be able to:

Content: Pattern know-how. Techniques and processes for completing a shirt. Creative additions, eg. pockets, top stitching. Consumer awareness. Clothes care.


Hom 41: Fruits of the Earth

Entry Requirements: NilI

Cost: $6.00 plus main ingredients

Purpose: This module will give students the opportunity to preserve food when it is abundant by following safe food handling guides.

Learning Outcomes: : By the end of this module students should be able to:

Content: Classify fruits and vegetables. Preserving foods - bottling, jam making, pickles/relishes, jellies, dehydration. Hygiene and food poisoning.


Hom 42: Our Pad

Entry Requirements: NilI

Cost: $6.00 plus main ingredients

Purpose: Where we live is one of the main focal points of our life. In this module students will look at interacting with others, especially pre-schoolers, and how the home can be a safe environment.

Learning Outcomes: : By the end of this module students should be able to:

Content: Functional areas of the home. House plans. Surfaces. Bedrooms, bathrooms. Healing and lighting. Physical development 0-5 years. Visit Kindergarten/playgroup.


Hom 43: Connoisseur of Foods

Entry Requirements: NilI

Cost: $6.00 plus main ingredients

Purpose: Students will plan, prepare and present a variety of dishes that are nutritionally balanced.

Learning Outcomes: : By the end of this module students should be able to:

Content: Meal planning. Healthy food pyramid. Time plans. Invitations. International cookery. Traditional foods.
