This is the home economics courses available to third year students at most secondary school. Third year students have more time for elective courses, so more courses are offered, depending on the size of the school.

Tlc 51: Sew Crafty

Entry Requirements: Nil

Cost: $10.00 plus provide own fabrics and notions. Includes fee for Practical Certificate.

Purpose: To increase skill and confidence in the use of a sewing machine and to improve resource management.

Learning Outcomes: : By the end of this module students should be able to:

Content: Pattern know-how. Techniques and processes for making articles. Research sewing machines. Textile terms. Construction of fabric and end uses.

Award: National Practical Certificate, CSC Certificate or towards SC


Tlc 52: Sew Easy

Entry Requirements: Tlc 51

Cost: $4.00 plus provide own fabrics and notions.

Purpose: To enable students to construct a simple garment and show basic understanding of equipment, patterns and cellulosic fibres.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of this module students should be able to:

Content: Fibre/fabric properties - Cellulose, Protein, Thermoplastic fibres. Serviceability concepts. Burning tests. Caring for textile articles. Samples showing techniques.

Award: National Practical Certificate, CSC Certificate or towards SC


Tcl 53: Sew Successful

Entry Requirements: Tlc 52

Cost: $4.00 plus provide own fabrics and notions.

Purpose: To develop and extend skills and make appropriate selection and use of fabrics, patterns and notions.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of this module students should be able to:

Content: Construction of a shirt. Wardrobe planning. Budgeting. Consumer education.

Award: National Practical, Certificate CSC Certificate or towards SC


Tlc 54: Sew Efficient

Entry Requirements: Tlc 53

Cost: $4.00 plus provide own fabrics and notions.

Purpose: To enable students to become more conversant with knit fabrics.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of this module students should be able to:

Content: Types of knit. Knit construction. Techniques and processes for sewing knit fabrics. School Certificate revision.

Award: CSC Certificate or towards SC


Hom 51 Thinking about Food

Entry Requirements: Nil

Cost: $16.00 plus main ingredients includes fee for Practical Certificate.

Purpose: In this module students will process and prepare foods.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of this module students should be able to:

Content: Food habits/choice. Food constituents. Food spoilage. Food preservation. Food hygiene. Convenience foods. Consumer rights. Microwave cookery. Family meals

Award: CSC Certificate or towards SC, National Practical Certificate


Hom 52 Independent Living

Entry Requirements: Hom 51

Cost: $6.00 plus main ingredients.

Purpose: In this module students will acquire skills for managing their futures.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of this module students should be able to:

Content: Simple economical meals/dishes. Equipment for the home. Electrical appliance consumer study. Families. Resource management. Choice of home/accommodation. Tenant rights and responsibilities. Housing Finance

Award: CSC Certificate or towards SC, National Practical Certificate


Hom 53 Focus on Food

Entry Requirements: Hom 52

Cost: $6.00 plus main ingredients.

Purpose: In this module students will plan and prepare family meals.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of this module students should be able to:

Content: Meal planning. Nutrition studies. Food and nutrition guidelines. Food studies.

Award: CSC Certificate or towards SC, National Practical Certificate


Hom 54 Homes and Families

Entry Requirements: Hom 53

Cost: $6.00 plus main ingredients.

Purpose: In this module students will acquire skills to meet the housing and food needs of families.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of this module students should be able to:

Content: Meals for special needs. House planning. Kitchen planning. Furnishings. Interior design. Energy management. The family wash.
