Tcl 61: Textiles and Technology

Entry Requirements: Grade C in School Certificate Tex/Clo or at discretion of Head of Department (HOD)

Cost: $4.00 plus provide own fabrics and notions

Purpose: Students will investigate the technological changes that have taken place regarding textiles and equipment required in the construction of garments.

Learning Outcomes: : By the end of this module students should be able to:

Content: Textile terms. Serviceability concepts. Consumer awareness. Computer sewing machine. Pattern information. Types of interfacing.

Tcl 62: Fashion, Design, and You

Entry Requirements: Grade C in School Certificate Tex/Clo or at discretion of HOD

Cost: $4.00 plus provide own fabrics and notions

Purpose: Students will investigate the changing fashion trends looking in particular at design principles and relating to particular figure types. They will design and make their own skin/trousers.

Learning Outcomes: : By the end of this module students should be able to:

Content: History of clothing design. Current fashion review. Figure types. Pattern choice. Pattern adaptations.

Tcl 63: Be Crafty

Entry Requirements:

Cost: $4.00 plus provide own fabrics and notions

Purpose: To give the students an opportunity to explore the creative aspects of traditional crafts, resulting in a craft for a child and the ability to make better use of their leisure time.

Learning Outcomes: : By the end of this module students should be able to:

Content: Patchwork, applique, smocking. Embroidery. Spinning at local group. Design elements. Selection of articles suitable for children.

Tcl 64: Leisurewear

Entry Requirements: Grade C in School Certificate Tex/Clo or at discretion of HOD

Cost: $4.00 plus provide own fabrics and notions

Purpose: In this module students will try new techniques and processes while sewing knit/stretch fabrics. Opportunities will allow students to make their own underwear/swimwear/sponswear.

Learning Outcomes: : By the end of this module students should be able to:

Content: Definition of knit types. Construction of knit fabrics. Construction of knit gannents. Selection of patterns. Experiments on related properties.

Hom 61: Food and Family Studies

Entry Requirements: Grade C in School Certificate Home Economics or at discretion of HOD

Cost: $6.00 plus main imgredients.

Purpose: In this module students will gain an understanding of the relationship between food andhealth through nutrition studies, practical application of food and nutrition guidelines, and the investigation of a food related disorder.

Learning Outcomes: : By the end of this module students should be able to:

Content: Food nutrients, functions, sources, daily requirement. Energy content of foods. Food and nutrition guidelines. Meal planning and preparation. Library research skills. Food related illness/diets. Families.

Hom 62: Homes for New Zealanders

Entry Requirements: Grade C in School Certificate Home Economics or at discretion of HOD

Cost: $6.00 plus main imgredients.

Purpose: In this module students will plan bow to set up a flat and develop the skills to evaluate, alter and draw house plans and design an interior decoration scheme.

Learning Outcomes: : By the end of this module students should be able to:

Content: Family housing needs. Houseplanning data. Technical drawing skills. Principles of art and design. Setting up a flat. Meals for flatters. Families.

Hom 63: Food Techmology

Entry Requirements: Grade C in School Certificate Home Economics or at discretion of HOD

Purpose: In this module students will investigate the properties of foods and the technologies used in food processing and apply the knowledge gained in preparing. Cooking and serving foods.

Learning Outcomes: : By the end of this module students should be able to:

Content: Food tests and application of knowledge gained in preparation and cooking of food. Food preservation. Jam making. Food additives. Technology and kitchen equipment

Hom 64: Changing Lifestyle

Purpose: In this module students will identify changes in New Zealand cuisine, investigate the cuisinelculwre of another countiy and present special occasion food.

Learning Outcomes: : By the end of this module students should be able to:

Content: New Zealand food patterns, customs, cuisine. Cuisine/culture of other countries. Food for special occasions.
