Canoeing seems particularly popular, although by canoeing the British meam kayacking. Canoeing is handt because it is possible in streams and small ponds. Thus it is an activity several schools can organize at the school with out access to large water fronts.
One book at bottom lake during the Easter holidays told us that it was highly unlikely that we could use it for canoeing this year. Much thought is going in to how we can re-create bottom lake and return it to its previous splendour, but it was not used at all this year. Instead, on most, Wednesday afernoons we were able to use Ardingly reservoir and on some Saturdays as well. We have added three new Europa canoes to our number and these proved most popular once people could get them to go in a straight line! Mr Cripps also took many outings to the seaside for surf canoeing and windsurfing. Grateful thanks to him for all the work he puts into the repair ans maintenance of the canoes and also to Mrs Mack who helps transport the victims to the reserboir on a Wednesday afternoon. The house competition was won this year by Toby Whittome for Carey in a most exciting finish, Three of the houses tied so we had to have a straight race to decide the wnner. The Canoeing cup goes to Steven O'Hara who would have been in the House competition if it had not been for an injury to his knee.

The weather was against all outside sports, or so it seemed. One Sunday the river rose past the top landing-stage and only boys who had passed their survival tests could go canoeing.
