Boating is a great favorite among the children. This is an activity that seems to interest both the boys and girls. Here there were limitations because it can only be offered on a regular basis if the school has some kind of pond or stream. Some schools with extensive grounds had suitable faciities. Boating can be offered at smaller schools, but usually only on the weekend when there is time to drive to a suitable boating facility. There are also seasonal constraints. Boating

For boating you have to change into your swimming trunks and track suit and run down to the Prosium 'ut with your towel. The Prosium 'ut is where all the life-jackets, paddles, helmets and oars are kept. The first person there is able to pick out which boat he wants to use. Mr Bassett usually takes the boating on the lake. I always try to get the wave-rider: its a surf-board which you are meant to sit on and paddle.

Types of Boating

There are different kinds of boating, including row boats, canones, sail boats, as well as other options. Canoeing seems particularly popular, although by canoeing the British meam kayacking. Sailing is also very popular, but a little more complicated for the schools. While row boats and canoes can be used on a small stream or pond, sailing requires a bit more space. Only a few schools have a pond large enough, although a few have ponds where the small one person boats can be used, especially by the younger children just beginning.
