Jungen: Eure Welt: Topics Chosen (Volume VI: 1943)

Figure 1.--The boys are working on a tactical situation. They are not wearing HJ uniforms. I think they may be students at the elite NAZI Party schools taken over by the SS.

The topics addressed in these books were obviously chosen to appeal to boys. There were a range of topics, but all chosen with a focus on boys. Much of the book is devoted to the War the direction of which fundamentally changed in 1942. The focus on the War is something that would have appealed to many boys, but one of the main purposes of the HJ was to prepare boys for the War. As a result, the articles not only dealt with the War, but on HJ programs preparing boys for war duties. This was dine through the Hitler Youth program. The activities not only introduced boys to military discipline, but developed a range of military skills. There were small arms training as well as training in orienteering, signals, map reading and other skills useful in combat operaions. There were also special HJ divisions which developed skills needed by the Navy and Luftwaffe. An important aspect of the Hitler Youth was to funnel boys into the various services of the German military. Of course there were countless military victories which could be used for the early volumes. This changed in 1942 when NAZI armies began to experience military defeats, but the publishers could simply harken back to earlier victories.
