A French catalog in 1936 Offered a ranges of games and vehicles. There were soccer balls, bowls, and ping-pong sets. There were also like scooters and bikes. We are not sure what store catalog this was.
We do not know which store sponsored this ad. A HBC reader tells us that it was a 1936 ad.

There were soccer balls, bowls, and ping-pong sets. Pin-pong was called "tennis de table" ot table tennis as in English.
We see three different children's vehicles in the add here. They seem to be vehicles for younger children. They included: an Irish mail, a scooter, and bicycle with training wheels.
Irish mail: The Irish mail was called a "rapid ram". The ad copy read, "Le rapid ram, tout métal, propulsion sur levier central, roues caout-choutées. de 3 å 6 ans. 69 Fr. Gres caoutchouca 79Fr." We note these Irish mails in America during the erly 20th century in America. We have not noted them in the 1930s.
Scooters The scooter was called a patinette. The ad copy read, "Patinette tube, roues caoutchoutées alvéolées, guidon nickelé réglable. De 3 å 8 ans 58 Fr. De 6 å 12 ans 77 FR." A French reader tells us that in French there are three words for scooter. A Patinette is a scooter for boy. This word was more common earlier. A French reader writes, "In the 1950s we boys used this word , rarely the word trottinette. Trottinette was also used for scooter. This word was also used in the past time , but is fashinable today. The English word Scooter is also used, but only for adult motor scooters. A reader tells us, "In the 1950s when I was a boy practicly all boys' scooter had a pedal wich was used doing to ride it. We were very fond of our scooter. Many boys recieved such Chrismas present. Trottinette come from the French word trottiner, meaning to do little quick step."
Bicycles: The French term for bicycle was bicyclette. The bike pictured had training wheels for children just learning to ride. The bike pictured was for boys, but the ad copt indicated that they were for boys and girls. I'm not if that meant that boys and girls rode the same syyle or the girl's style was just not illustrated.The ad copy read, "Bicyclette avec galets, stabilisateurs, gros caoutchoucs ballons, selle cuir, garde-boue, article robuste et soigné. Garçons ou filles. 3 å 5 ans 99 Fr. 4 å 7 ans 109 Fr. 5 å 9 ans 119 Fr."
