French Patterns: Patrons de Marie Claire--Safari Suits, 1960s

Figure 1.--The French pattern company, Patrons Marire Claire, offered this safari suit consisting of a safari jacket and matching short pants.

A French pattern company, Patrons Marie Claire, in the 1960s offered patterns for safari suits for boys from 2-7 years of age. There were patternhs for boys 2-5 and 5-7 years of age. This safari suit consisted of a safari jacket and matching short pants. There were two styles of shorts both with and wThe company rather incongrously subtiltled the package, "Elegance de Paris.

HBC is not sure how many mothers actually made and boys wore the safari outfit shown in this sewing pattern. HBC is unsure why these safari suits apeeared in the 1960s. These outfits were also available in stores. We have seen several catalogs with this style, in France as ell as Germany, so it does seemed to have been worn to some extent. We have not, however, noted a lot of boys wearing this style of short sets. A French reader tells HBC that indeed this was not an especially popular style in Frnce.
