The Boys Buyer: Fauntleroy Suit (January 1929)

Figure 1.-- Younger boys might still wear Fautleroy-styled outfits for formal occassions during the 1920s. We notice both bolero (cut-away) jackets and collar-buttoning jackets. One was advertized in The Boys Buyer. We know nothing about it except that it was a monthly trade magazine for shops that sold boy's clothing. They sold to higher end shops. You woudn't see these suits in the Sears and Wards catalogs, but you might find them in high-end shops.

We have this page from a January 1929 issue, bur we do not know the publication chronology of the magzine. The suit was a satin and silk party suit. The ad copy read, "Kibel, Jr. in Satin Party Suit. 'Dainty Boy' Spring abd Summer Novelty Suits. Now ready and being shown on the rod. Combinations, flappers and original novelties of imported fabrics. Showing something different in silk and satin party suits. 'The best ever.' Daintly Novelty Co. 38 West 26th Street, New York. Tel. Chelsea 6887. Formerly at 102 Madison Ave., N.Y." These suits were mostly worn by pre-school boys. A slightly older boy, including bos in the younger grade schol years might wear Fauntleroy outfits for formal events like a wedding or recital in the 1920s.
