American Mail Order Catalogs with Boys Clothings: Garments--Headwear

Figure 1.--.

American mail order catalogs offer a very view of the styles and garments overtime to help us view changing fashion trends. HBC has noted a wide variety of headwear advertised in clothing catalogs during the late 19th century. Hats seemed more popular in the 19th century while more informal caps became increasinly popular in the 20th century. Also the numbers of different styles decvlined are the 20th century progressed.

Hats

Formal attite like hats were the dominate head gear worn by boys in the 19th centry. An amazing number of differvhat styles were available to American boys, especially in the late 19th century. Yonger boys had very destincyivev hat styles. Older boys sometimes wore styles that looked much like their fathers' hat styles. Unfortunalely we can not specifically date all of these pages.

Caps

After the turn of the 20th century, caps became increasingly popular with American boys.
