European Royalty: Thurn and Taxis--Ludwig Philippe (1901-33)

Figure 1.--This portarit shows Albert I with his grand children Anselem and Jnniga. Prince Anselem. They were the children of his third son Ludwig Phillipe. Prince Anselem looks to be 4 years old in a portrait taken about 1928.

We have only limited information on Ludwif Philippe at this time. He was the third son of Albert I and Franz Joseph's younger brother. He married Princess Elisabeth of Luxemburg. Ludwig-Philippe died at a very uong age in 1931. I am not sure of the circumstances. They had two children. Their eldest son Anselem-Albert was killed in World War II. He would have been about 20 years old at the time. We do not know the circumstances of his death, but how frustrating it must have been. He was a member of one of the riches families in Europe, but forced to fight in a war that by 1944 was hopelessly lost. We know nothing about his politics. His grandfather hated the NAZIs, but we do not know about Ludwig Phillipe and his sons. He would have grown up in the Hitler Youth.

Parents

We have only limited information on Ludwig Phillipe at this time. He was the third son of Albert I and Franz Joseph's younger brother.

We have information on two children.

Anselem-Albert (1924-44)

Prince Anselem was killed in World War II at Solotaia-Balka. Two years earlier his cousin Prince Gabriel died in action during 1942 ar Stalingrad. Anselem-Albert would have been about 20 years old at the time. We do not know the circumstances of his death, but how frustrating it must have been. He was a member of one of the riches families in Europe, but forced to fight in a war that by 1944 was hopelessly lost. We know nothing about his politics. His father hated the NAZIs, but we do not know about Karl August and his sons. He would have grown up in the Hitler Youth. Prince Anselem is seen here with his grandfather Albert I, probably about 1928 (figure 1). S.H.D. means "Seine Hoheit Durchlaucht". We are not precisely sure who is who, but believe that Prince Anselem is the older child. The Princess wears a short white frock. The prince wears a white tunic with an large ruffled collar and fanct front. Their is a kind of ribbon belt in a contrasting light color. Both children have their hair cut in bangs. We wonder if the clothing might not reflect their mother's fashion sence more than German fashions at the time.

Jnniga (1925- )

A French reader tells us that the name of the princess would be Inniga which sounds better.
