We do know that Prince Nauruhito attended regular school like his father. We do not know yet what schools he attended or his experiences were. He attended Tokyo's prestigious Gakushuin school like his father, but was not isolated like his father was. He entered Gakushuin primary (1966). We do not have any information about Naruhito's school experiences. Here we see him in his primary school uniform (figure 1). The school used the Prussian cadet-style uniform. This was more common at secondary schools, but was worn a a few primary schools as well. Most private schools had uniforms, but only a few had trhe Prussian cadet uniforms. The primary uniform was a black Prussian cadet cap and jacket, short pants, ankle socks, and leather shoes. A reader tells us that when photographs appeared of Prince Nauruhito being walked to school, a controversy developed as to whether children should be allowed to walk to school on their own. Of course given security concerns, an imperial prince can not be trerated like any primary school child. The Prince graduated from Gakushuin primary (1972).
