European Royalty: Unidentified Images

Belgian royals
Figure 1.--We believe these are European royals, but have lost the reference. The photograph was probably taken in the 1930s. A HBC reader reports that these children are Princess Josephine Charlotte of Belgium (later Grand Duchess of Luxembourg) and her younger brothers Baudoin and Albert (later Kings of Belgium - one of them still is). They are the children of King Leopold III (1901 - 1983) and his first wife Astrid, Princess of Sweden.

Unidentified Images

HBRC has acquired a number of images of European royalty, but can not identify all of them. If you know who the individuals in these images are or can add any other information, HBC would be most interested in your insights. Thi is a nice aspect of the internet, the ability to elicit and receive comments from all over the world. An indeed readers have helpe us to identify these images.

Germasn royals
Figure 2.--This image is obviously German, but we were not sure just which family. It looks to be a 1910s image. The caption reads "the Princess Oskar von Prussen with her children Prince Wilhelm Karl and Princess Herzeleide". An astute HBRC reader has identified this 1920s image as the wife and children of Prince Oscar, a son of Wilhelm II. Click on the image to go to Prince Oscar's page.

This image is obviously German, but I wasn't sure just which family. It looks to be a 1910s image. The caption reads "the Princess Oskar von Prussen with her children Prince Wilhelm Karl and Princess Herzeleide". The name "Princess Oskar" sounds a bit strange in that Oskar is a man's name. But this convention was like the now hopelessy out dated convention of referring to a wife by the hisband's name, such as "Mrs. John Doe" for the wife married to Johb Doe. An astute HBRC reader has identified this 1920s image as the wife and children of Prince Oscar, a son of Wilhelm II.

Figure 3.--HBC believes that this is an Austrian photograph taken about 1910. We can not, however, quite make out the text. Several interesting fashion trends are observeable. The boys appear to be brothers.
