Weimar Republic: Unidentified School (about 1920)

Figure 1.--This German school portrait is unidebntified. It shows a class of younger primary boys with their teacher. We would guess that it was taken about 1920. It looks to be a class from a rural village school. Many of the boys wear the suits that buttoned at the collar without lapels. Click on the image to see the rest of the pupils.

This German school portrait is unidentified. It shows a class of younger primary boys with their teacher. We would guess that it was taken about 1920. It looks to be a class from a rural village school. The boys look to be younger primary boys, about 7-8 years old. Many of the boys wear the suits that buttoned at the collar without lapels. Some boys wore sweaters rather than suits. I think these were generally the boys from less affluent families. All the boys wear knee pants of varying length with darklong stockings. Some of the boys in the class wear sailor suits. Many but not all of the boys have close-cropped hair.
