School Wear at Individual Schools: Primary School Teacher (1936)

Figure 1.--This teacher certainly had his hands full with 50 pupils. He seems to have them well disciplined. He wears a single breasted suit with large lapels and a soft collar. Note the pin on his lapel. We wonder if that was a NAZI Party pin. By 1936 the NAZIs had made substantial progress in replacing competent teachers with Image courtesy of the MD collection.

This teacher certainly had his hands full with 50 pupils. He seems to have them well disciplined. He wears a single breasted suit with large lapels and a soft collar. Note the pin on his lapel. We wonder if that was a NAZI Party pin. German before the rise of the NAZIshad perhaps the primier ducational system in the world. By 1936 the NAZIs had made substantial progress in replacing competent teachers with NAZI loyalists of varying abilities. Unfortunately we know nothing about this treacher or even where the school was located. The appearance of of the classroom and his clothing suggests that the teacher is a neat and orgaized man. There is no sign from the classroom that he is actively promoting NAZI ideology. A German reader writes, "I don't think the teacher does wear a NAZI badget, as it was the swastika with NSDAP writen around it." Unfortunately the image is not detasiled enough to make out what was on the pin.
