Individual U.S. School: Unidentified Primary School (late 1910s)

Figure 1.-- Here we see three boys wearing sailor suits. Two wear the brownish colored suits and the other the more traditional blue suit. This image only shows the boys' middy blouses. Click on the image for another view of the group. It show the boy at the lower right here is wearng knee pants with long stockings.

HBC has several details from the portrait showing the children's outfits in detail. Several of the boys wear sailor suits. Two boy wear similar suits, ptobably a brownish color that did not show the dirt. One boys wears a more traditional sailor suit. Notice that all the dickies simply replicate the stripes. The portrait for the most part only shows the boys' middy blouses. One of the details from the portait shows one boy (the boy at the lower right in the image here) who seems to be wearing knee pants. A reader writes, "It is hard to tell but the boy's trouser's appears to be shorts and I think he is wearing long stockings with them. But the trousers do not seem to match the sailor top." One boy has a large white collar and floppy bow, We also see a boy in a more modern shirt amd toe. Another boy wears a dark blouse with a wide collar. We are not sure about the color. The boy it is wearing it unbuttoned which was not very common. Another boy wears what looks like a home knitted sweater. The girls are all wearing dresses with both knee socks and long stockings. Note that none of the girls have sailor dresses. One girl has a huge hair bow.
