German school hosiery
Figure 1.--The boys in this unidentified German school class in 1929 mostly wear long stockings. One boy has rolled his stockings down. Botice all the boys wearing light-colored stockings, probably tan shades.

Differences persisted between Anmerica and Europe. American boys continued wearing knickers to school, although we seen older teens mostly wearing long paants. Boys continued to wear black long stockings. Younger boys might wear long stockings with short pants, but this was not very common for school after the first 2 years. Color preference began to change weith tan shades becoming popular for younger children. We also see colors changing in Europe. But there boys more commonly wore short pants. This was especually the case after World War I. Some older boys might knickers before finally going into long pants. We see more children wearing knee socks on a seasonal basis. This varied from country to country largely on a seasonal basis. Long stockings continued to be very common in Germany and related countries like Switzerland and Denmark. There long stickings were very common on a seasinal basis. They were also common to the east in Czechoslovakiam Polnd, and the Soviet Union. British boys no longer wore long stovkings, but some giurls did. This was particularly true at some privarte schools which insisted on long stockings as part of the uniform. Further south in France and Italy, long stockings were much less common. We also notice Japanese boys wearing long stockings to school.
