The royal couple had four children. The Grand Duchess liked to dress the boys alike, especilly in sailor suits. Their first son was Friedrich Franz V, Hereditary Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (1910- ). Friedrich Franz IV's other four children were: Christian Ludwig, Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (1912- ), Thyra, Duchess of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (1919- ), Anastasia, Princess Friedrich Ferdinand of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Gl�cksburg (1922- ). She married on September 1, 1943, at Wiligrad.

with kneepant as a younger boy. He married unequally on June 11, 1941 during World War II to Karin Elisabeth, n�e von Schaper (1920- ) at Wiligrad. Friedrich
Franz V succeeded as head of the dynasty on November 17, 1945 upon the death of his father, Grand Duke Friedrich Franz IV.. He was the head of the family, but
as the dynaty had been deposed at the end of World War I, however, he never asceded to the throne.
