Luxemburg Royalty: Grand Duke John's Children's Clothes

4Figure 1.-- Here is the royal family about 1967 with the three children. The girls wear prim dresses and Prince Henri Albert Gabriel a trim short pants suit. Jean Felix Marie Guillaume wears an Eton blouse with eiter a Ton jacket or cardigan sweater. Prince Jean Felix Marie Guillaume wears a romper outfit.

We do not have a great deal of information on how the children dressed. There are numerous portraits of the children, however, which provide us some information on how the children were dressed over time. There are both group portraits and individual portraits. A portrait of Prince Guillaume about 1964 shows him wearing rompers. Herecwe also see him wearing a romper outfit (gigure 1). Other images show him wearing bib-front shorts as well as sweaters and slacks. Other portrait for the boys show them wearing trim-fitting single-breasted suits. The older boy here, Prince Henri Albert Gabriel a trim short pants suit. Jean Felix Marie Guillaume wears an Eton blouse with eiter a Ton jacket or cardigan sweater. It is difficult to tell from the portrait. The girls wear simple, but elegant dresses. Unlike the boys, they do not seem to have worn casual clothes.

Boys

We note the boys wearing a range of formal and casual outfits. A portrait of Prince Guillaume about 1964 shows him wearing rompers. Here we also see him wearing a romper outfit (figure 1). I'm not sure about the color. As a little older boys he wore a light-blue shorts set. The other boys probably wore similar outfits, although we do not yet have images of them at this age.

Girls

The girls wear simple, but elegant dresses. Unlike the boys, they do not seem to have worn casual clothes. We only see them wearing dresses.
