This is a picture of two uncles of mine probably taken about 1919. The eldest is John and the younger one is Peter Ward. Uncle John wore a Eton blouse with button-on shorts. Uncle Peter wears a smocked dress or smock, its difficult to tell. My uncles became pilots. During World War II. John flew Tempests and Lycanders, while Peter flew Blenheims and later Lancasters. John became a Squadron Leader and after the War started up the General Aviation Safety Committee and was awarded the MBE (Member of the British Empire) for his services to flight safety. Peter became a civil pilot and flew for Lufthanza on Constelalions then onto British European Airways (later intergrated with part British Airways) on Viscounts and Comets as a Captain.
