Lycee Lamoriciere: Chronology--The 1950s

Figure 1.--Here we see the 3 eme C class at the Lycee Lamoriciere in 1958. The boys all wear casual clothes. It looks to be chilly and the boys are mostly wearing heavy sweaters. These are the boys in the middle of the school. As in the other image, the boys also wear casual jackets and sweaters. The boys wear long pants, with one exception. Click on the image to see the younger boys at the school, a 6eme class in 1957.

Boys at the Lycee Lamoriciere school in the 1950s are wearing mostly casual clothes. We see mostly sweaters and casual clothes. Many of the older boys wore suit and ties, but not the younger boys. Here we see very casual outfits. The younger boys did not wear ties, but many buttoned the collars on their shirts even wehen dresses casually. The casual look is different than many of the images we see at lycees before World War II. One major change we note during the 1950s is that boys increasing began wearing long pants. We note most of the younger boys and even some of the mid-age boys in the early 1950s wearing knickers and short pants. By the end of the decade this has changed considerably. Even the younger boys are motly wearing long pants. Mbr>

1952

Boys at the school dressed casually. The yonger boys rarely wore suits and ties. We see casual jackets and ties. Most of the younger boys and even some of the mid-age boys in the early 1950s wearing knickers and short pants. Few boys wore kneesocks with shorts, but we notice a few in the colder months. We also notice boys wearing sandals in the ealy 1950s, something that was less common at the end of the decade.

1953

A class portrait of the 6eme class in 1953 shows the boys in a variety of casual clothes. The boys wear a variety of casual clothing, including jackets and sweatwrs. Many boys still wear short pants, but we note a few more boys wearing knickers and long pants than we did in 1952.

1954

We see boys in 1954 waring the same casual styles we have noted earlier. The boys wear casual jackets and styles. We also note the boys wearing a variety of trousers, including short pants, knickers, and long pants. This vatied among the different classes. One class has boys wearing short and long pants, but we notice boys wearing knickers in another class.

1957

Click on the image here to see the 6eme class in 1957 during the same time of year. The younger boys are dressed similarly in casual clothing, jackets and sweaters. One of the younger boys wears a tie. Notably quite a few button the collar buttons even though they do not wear ties. Two of these boys wear shorts even though the weather is chilly.

1958

We see the 5A9 class in the previous page at the Lycee Lamoriciere in 1958. The boys all wear casual clothes. It looks to be chilly and the boys are mostly wearing heavy sweaters. None of the boys are wearing ties, but most have buttoned their collars. One boy looks to be wearing a blazer. The boys seem to almost be wearing long pants, although one boy seems to be wearing shorts. I'm not sure if seasonality is a factor. We notice another class in the same year. Here the boys are a 3 eme class (figure 1). They are the boys in the middle of the school. As in the other image, the boys also wear casual jackets and sweaters. The boys wear long pants, with one exception. We can also view the younger boys.
