Spanish Girls School Smock: Actual Garments

Figure 1.--This Catlanian smock was worn by girls in a Barcelona school in 2001. Hereis a front and back view.

This pink girl's school smock was from a Catalonian school in Barcelona. It is a collarless back buttoning smock in a small blue and white check. There are white buttons at the back and sleeve cuff. There is also on pocket at the right front. The smock has a high yoke, but no waisline. There is a half waist belt at the back. I'm not sure what the purpose wa, perhaps to tighten the fit. The boys at the school had similar smocks, only in blue and with no collars and with a Peter Pan collar. The convention of a different color for boys nd girls is common, but not adopted at every school. A Spanish HBC reader tells us, "Las batas que han sido enviadas son actualmente vestidos por mis hijos en una escuela privada elitista de Barcelona." This means, "The smock photographs that I sent were actual the clothes worn by my two children in the pribate school they were enrolled in at Barcelona."
