European Youth Group: Unknown Countries

Figure 1.--Here we have a snapshot of an unidentified boy in 1933. He wears a suit, but has what looks like a youth group cap. The only identfiable element in the photograph is a badge on the cap. We can not make itv out very well, but it looks to us like a royalist symbol, suggesting a youth group associated with the monarchy. We believe this is either Hungarian or Yugoslav, probably meaning Serbian. There is writing on the back, but we are not sure about the language which of course would help identify the country. We think it may be Hungarian. Click on the image to see the writing on the back.

We can usually figure out the country involved in youth group photographs even if there is no indication on the photograph. Ethnicity, clothing, buildings, vehicles, and other background feartures can help provide clues as to the country. The youth group involved is more complicated, but the country is easier to work out. We have acquired a few photographs that we are not sure about. We will post them here and hope that readers may be able to identify them.

Here we have a snapshot of an unidentified boy in 1933. He wears a suit, but has what looks like a youth group cap. The only identfiable element in the photograph is a prominent badge on the cap (figure 1). We can not make it out very well, but it looks to us like a royalist symbol, suggesting a youth group associated with the monarchy. We believe this is either Hungarian or Yugoslav, probably meaning Serbian. It looks cloest to the Humngarian royal shield, but not the same. There is writing on the back, but we are not sure about the language which of course would help identify the country. We think it is Hungarian

Here we see a boy in a blue uniform. The boy clearly is of European stock, but of course ghast dos not mean that he is European. It does not seem to be a Scout unifoirm, but is clearly a youuh group uniform. We have no idea which youth group. Nor are we sure about the country. We believe that Europe is possible bedcause of the boy's eynicity. The pine forest in the background looks like the Americn Southeast, but we think Europe is more likely. New Zealnd is a strong possibility, because of the uniform. It looks to us like a Boys Brigde uniform, but none of the various badges are clear enough to draw any conclusions from them. But New Zealand would be our best guess. We are also not sure about the date. We might guess the 1990s, a longer-length shirts bcme more common after the turn-of the century. Hopefully readers will have some idea.
