Unknown HJ Boy's Album: Chronology

Figure 1.--This is a photograph of a pier at Hamburg taken by the HJ boy. Note the Olympic and NAZI flag. This is what people coming to Germany for the Olymics would have seen when arrivig anf leaving. This suggests that some of the photographs in the album were taken in 1936. he ship here is a German KDF cruise ship. The caption read, "Ein K.D.F.Schiff läuft aus." That meant, "A K.D.F.ship leaves."

The photographs are undated, but look to us to have been taken before World War II, about 1936-38. We think that some of the phoographs might have been taken as early as 1936 because we see an Olympic flag in one photograph. The uniforms suggest that they were not taken earlier. And there is no indication of war time activities so we would assume that they were taken before 1939. only one of the photographs is dates and tht is the skiing lesson photograph shich was taken in 1938. It was located near the end of the album, condirming out estimate of 1936-38 for these photographs. The album contains 56 original photoographs. For some reason the album wound up in Italy some time after the War. Given that he was an older HJ boy, he almost certainly would have been involved in the War. We have no information on his War experiences.
