Soviet Young Pioneer Uniforms" Lenningrad House of Models Design (1964)

Figure 1.-- A Soviet fashion magazine in 1964 had an article which presented a new Young Pioneer Summer uniform for both boys and girls. It was created by the Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) House of Models. We do not know if this uniform was adopted by the Young Pioneers or to what extent it was actually worn by Soviet children.

A Soviet fashion magazine Dla detej - modeli i vykrojki (i>For children - models and patterns), in 1964 (issur No.3, presumably March) had an article which presented a new Young Pioneer Summer uniform for both boys and girls. It was created by the Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) House of Models. Lenningrad was the most fashionable city in the Soviet Union. I'm not sure just what the Lenningrad House of Models was. We assume it was a kind of clothing design bureau and that fashions created there were used by Soviet clothing manufacturing plants. One interesting question is the extent to which the styles created here were influences by Western fashion and how the Lenningrad House of Fashion collected information on Western fashion trends. We do not know if this uniform was adopted by the Young Pioneers or to what extent it was actually worn by Soviet children. The article referred to "new samples of Summer YP uniform". This may mean that these were just vrious possible uniforms that had been created, but not yet accepted by the Young Pioneer organization. Or perhaps these were models designed for Soviet mothers to sws. There were not, however, any accompanying patterns. Notice the flap pockets on the boy's shirt. There was also a flap pocket on the shorts, perhaps influenced by American camp shorts. I'm not sure about the colors.
