New Zealand Sea Scouting: Traditional ActivitiesTrain and Camping

Figure 1.--Here are some modern New Zealand Sea Scouts. They are wearing the current Sea Scout uniform, but for obvious reasons, without their white caps.

An important traditional activity in land camping is of course hiking and camping. This was a major actiity in early Scouting. This is some what less true today, but still continues to be important. Sea Scouts are also involved in "tramps" (hiking and camping). Camping is now a means to an activity rather than an activity itself. The Sea Scouts make look a little incongrous hiking and camping in Sea Scout uniforms, rather like their boat was grounded. As a result, Sea Scouts usually travel in uniform , but but change into activity dress for the action. They enjoy the traditional land activities as much as the regular Scouts. Sea Scout camping included all the traditional aspects of land scouting such as thge evening camp fire with songs and skits.
