The 7th World Jamboree was held 4 years after the 6th Annual Jamoree as the Scouts returned to a regular schedule. It was held in Austria, a country still suffering from long years of hardship. For this reason, the 1951 Jamboree in Austria was termed the 'Jamboree of Simplicity'. The site was a golf course set amongst the picturesque mountains in the Salzkammergut region, not far from the little town of Bad Ischl. The Jamboree was organised by voluntary Scout Leaders in their spare time and the Austrian Scouts worked on the site for two years to save costs and ensure the amenities of a Jamboree Camp Site. Numbers were limited to 15,000 and none will forget the first night when, as a welcoming gesture, the Austrian Scouts lit beacons on the tops of each of the mountains surrounding the site. All in all it was a tremendous achievement by a country still under military occupation. A Swiss Scout remembers attending the 7th World Jamboree. A large contingent of Swiss Scots traveled to Bad Ischl by train. One of the interesting aspects of the World Jamborees was comparing each others' uniforms. Scouts also brought along folk and other traditional clothing which they would also wear. We note Swiss Scouts showing off traditional garments. Swiss Scouts also brought included a group of Scouts with handicaps, the fitst contingent to do so. Various groups at the Jamboree organized entertainments. We note the American Scout band giving a concert. Scout bands eem popular in America through the 1950s, but we see less of them by the 1960s. The 1951 World Jamboree was renownd for its very elaborate pioneering-projects built by the Scouts. Here is one of the great pioneering projects which were built by the Scouts. I think modern Scout Leaders might not allow constructions like this for safty reasons.
