Canadian Cub Scout Garments: Caps

Figure 1.--This was the Canadian Cub Scout cap worn in the 1950s. A very similar cap was still worn in the 1990s. Note the button top. Click on the image to see the inside of the cap.

Canadian Cubs in the 1990s wore the traditional green wool cap with yellow piping that was adopted by the British Cubs in 1916. The yellow piping met at the crown with a button top. As far as we know this was also adopted by Canadian Cubs in 1916. The style was based on the paeked school cap that was widely worn in Britain at the time. The green wool cap has an oval front badge which in the 1950s had a red wolf with the inscription below in red letters "Boy Scouts". One Canadian writes that he remembers wearing the cap with the red wolf as a Cub in the 1950s. The label inside the cap says, "Official" WOLF CUB CAP supplied by: The Stores Dept. Boy Scouts Ass'n., Ottawa Canada. The badge in the 1990s was a yellow and green one, but I am unsure of the details. Other than the change in the badge the cap seems to have changed little over time. There may, however, been some changes in the proportions of the bill or peak.
