English Boy Scout Uniforms: Activities (The 1950s)


Figure 1.--St. George is the patron saint of England. Each year English Scouts participate in a St. George's Day parade and celebration. This is the 1955 St Georges Day Parade of the 1st Heworth York.

We note a wide range of Scout activities in the 1950s. Most seem to be the same traditional Scout activities we have noted in earlier years. Hiking, camping, an outdoor activities coninue to be the focus of the program. The Scouts here are engaged in an orienterring exercise. There were also many traditioin events such as the St. George's Day parade (figure 1).
