United States Eleventh National Jamboree (1981): Two Uniforms

The 1981 Natioanl Jamboree was a transitional event. Most of the Scouts at the Jaboree wore the new uniform that was just introduced in 1981. The Scouts seen trading patches wear the new uniform on the previous page. A few units, like the one here (figure 1) and many individuals still had the old olive green uniform that American Scouts had worn since the 1940s. As a result it was possible to see both uniforms. It was the last tume that large numbers of American Scouts could be seen wearing the old uniform.

New Uniform in 1981

The 1981 Natioanl Jamboree was a transitional event. Most of the Scouts at the Jaboree wore the new uniform that was just introduced in 1981. The Scouts seen trading patches wear the new uniform on the previous page. Most of the Scouts at the Jamoree already had the new uniform.

Old Uniform

A few units, like the one here (figure 1) and many individuals still had the old olive green uniform that American Scouts had worn since the 1940s. As a result it was possible to see both uniforms. It was the last tume that large numbers of American Scouts could be seen wearing the old uniform. This group wears optional red berets. Some groups adopted this headwear, but it was not the standard uniform style.

Mixed

Many boys at the Jamoree came with some old uniform items. As a result you saw a mix of uniforms when the boys were not dressed up in their class A uniforms. Some boys wore both old and new uniform items as well a a variety of non unorm items. This happened more and more as the Jamboree went on.
