Various Belgian Scout Groups

Figure 1.-- Here we notice a Scout from the Scouts Jan Breydel. We know nothing about the group at this time.

We note some Scout groups that we are not sure how they fit into the overall structure. We do not know if they belong to one of the major associations or that they are small associations. Some may even be independent groups. Here we note Scout groups with individual names, but we know little about these groups at this time and have just begun to collect information. Here we notice, for example, the Scouts Jan Breydel, but we know nothing about the group at this time.

Scouts Jan Breyde

One Scout group we notice is the Scouts Jan Breyde. We know very little about the group at this time. The group was apparently founded after World War II in 1947. At the time, Scouting which had been banned by the NAZI occuparion authorities (1940-44) was reorganizing in Belgium. The group was founded in Flanders. We note some early photographs of the grouo, apparently from the 1950s. It difficult to make out many details of the uniform. We notice some variation in uniforms worn by modern members of the group. Some images show the Scouts wearing grey shirts with brown shorts with grey kneesocks that had blue and green bands at the top. The impage here shows a Scout with a burgandy sweater or sweatshirt. Perhaps our Belgian readers will be able to tell us more. We do know that the group had both Cubs and Scouts.

Unité Saint Benoît FCS

Here we notice the 25th Unité Saint Benoît FCS. We are not yet able to place them within the organizational structure of Belgian Scouting. Thet are a French speeking group, but apparently located in the Flemish area of Belgium (Etterbeek). The name suggests that they are Catholic Scouts. The Cubs wear a traditional uniform of peaked cap, green sweater, and blue cord shorts. The Scouts wear a brown uniform. There is quite a bit of information on their website. Perhaps a French reader can tell us more.
