Hong Kong Boy Scout Uniforms

Many of the different Scout levels have distinctive uniforms. The two principal groups are Cubs and Scouts. There are also other grouos like Grasshoppers, Air Scouts, Sea Scouts, Ventures, and Rovers. The different age levels, however, have quite similar uniforms. The Grasshoppers, Cubs, and Scouts wear similar uniforms. The major difference is the head gear. The tradition Cub peaked cap is instantly recognizable. They all strongly show the British influence on Hong Kong Scout uniforms as it does on the overall Scouting program. We note that while many Scout groups around the world have gradually placed less and less emphasis on the Scout uniform. Hong Kong Scouts are still generally well turned out in Scout events.

Levels

Seasonal Uniforms

There are some seasonal differences to the Hong Kong Scout uniforms. Both short and long sleeved shirts are available and some Scouts prefer the long trousers during the cooler winter months.

Uniform Garments

Some information is available on the uniforms worn by Hong Kong Scouts. Hong Kong Scouts still place a great emphasis on the unifirm. Many Scout associations around the world have made major uniform changes in the Scout uniform during the 1980s and 90s. The Hong Kong uniform, however, remains little changed. Cubs continue to wear the traditional peaked cap, one of a dwindling numbers of national Scout groups which countinue to use the . traditional cap. Short pants an kneesocks are still widely worn by Cubs and Scouts. Many other associations in particular dropped kneesocks in the 1990s.
